The 12th annual Central Alberta Family Expo is returning to Red Deer County this Saturday.

On March 16 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Crossroads Church (38155 Range Road 275B), the fun-filled trade show and exposition is geared towards parents and their children from the expectant stage through to elementary school.

“We hope that [guests] take way some joy and happiness and some great memories with their family and all the people that are here,” said Pat Moore, partner and producer of the Expo with Nancy Paish.

With nearly 60 exhibitors’ booths in attendance, this year’s event will include a new market lane of home-based businesses and handcrafted products.

There will also be a myriad of activities for families, including bouncers, a Power Wheels track, face painting, a Beyblade competition, scavenger hunt with a grand prize, and an entertainment area with live music, dancing, a hula hoop contest, a Travelling Troop Performance by the Dance Magic group, and a Star Wars-related Padawan Demo & Training Seminar by the Saber Guild Echo Base Temple.

The annual event also supports local non-profits that impact families. This year’s choice of charity will be STARS Ambulance, providing medical care and transportation to those in critical need. All donations made to the 13 Star Wars costumers for photos will be given to the charity.

“We all know how much they benefit our community. There’s so few families that haven’t been touched in some way by the services of STARS,” said Moore.

Tickets are available at the door, cash only, for $15 for those aged 13 and over and free for children 12 and under. Today is the last day to purchase tickets online for a $3 discount.

“There’s lots and lots of free things to do. We want to make it a fun family time where they can just have fun and not worry about the cost,” she said.

All passes include full-day admission to the bouncers and donations of non-perishable items will be collected at the door for the Red Deer Food Bank for the chance to win a prize.

Some additional fees may apply for various booths like the face painting.
