Red Deer Home Show returns for 45th year this weekend

Mar 4, 2024 | 5:22 PM

The Red Deer Home Show is returning for its 45th year this weekend at Westerner Park.

Presented by the Building Industry and Land Development (BILD) Association of Central Alberta from March 8-10, the annual event since 1979 has become a staple for homeowners and professionals in the residential construction industry to network and share ideas.

“The 2024 Red Deer Home Show is almost here and we are beyond excited. This year, we have had amazing support from exhibitors, sponsors and the community to highlight the home building industry in a fun and interactive environment,” said Chris Windrim, Executive Director of BILD Central Alberta.

Windrim said the show is 22 per cent larger this year compared to last, with over 190 exhibitors and over 350 booths spanning three pavilions of over 128,000-square feet. He says they anticipate to see up to 8,000 attendees over the weekend.

The event will provide central Albertans with an opportunity to explore new and enhanced products and services, ranging from cutting-edge home technologies to the latest in sustainable building practices, meet award-winning builders and renovators, and discover innovative ideas and décor, featuring everything from interior design and landscaping to roofing and energy-efficient solutions.

“I would love for guests to leave inspired about housing, make sure that they can have their questions answered, and also feel excited about what’s happening in central Alberta,” he said.

With housing in high demand across the country, Windrim says the show will have around 14 new home builders as well as an Experts Booth featuring skilled professionals to answer the public’s questions from all levels of expertise, whether it be a Do-It-Yourself home improvement project or understanding the fundamentals of sustainable building.

Apart from the traditional single-family homes, he says central Alberta has seen a strong upward trend towards multi-family and row homes. He adds that upcoming projects relating to apartment buildings in the region is also great news.

While there won’t be any speakers this year, other show features include the Family Fun Zone with facepainting, bouncy castles, and a lounge, the Tiny Home by Tree Hugger, prizes and giveaways, and the Belt Sander Races as they speed down a 60-foot track. Finally, the show will present the winners of the 2023 Central Alberta Awards of Excellence in Housing.

Windrim says a Travel Alberta study will be conducted to gage the dollar amount through sales by exhibitors, overnight stays in hotels, local restaurant orders, and more.

Also in store for BILD Central Alberta this year includes the 2024 Awards of Excellence in May, celebrating various projects of the year for builders, renovators, trades and service professionals.

“When we look at BILD Central Alberta moving forward, we’re wanting to make sure that we bring a stronger voice to the housing industry for central Alberta and make sure we’re representing the residential construction industry in a big way,” he said.

Admission to the Home Show is $12 at the door, $10 for students and seniors, and free for anyone under 12 years old. Attendees can get a $2 discount by purchasing the tickets online with the promo code “ONLINE”.

The Lending Cupboard will also be available to ensure accessibility to the event with free wheelchairs and other accommodations.
