NDP leadership candidate: Alberta should follow B.C.’s lead in raising minimum wage
Alberta NDP leadership candidate Kathleen Ganley is making a call today for Alberta to raise the minimum wage.
Ganley says B.C.’s move to $17.40 per hour starting June 1 means Alberta, which sits at $15 as a minimum wage, should follow suit. B.C. workers already have a minimum wage of $16.75.
Specifically, Ganley believes the minimum wage should immediately increase to $16, then to $17 next year.
“Alberta workers are falling farther and farther behind,” Ganley said. “We need an economy that works for people and that’s what I intend to fight for as Alberta NDP Leader and deliver on as Premier.”
