Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit investigating central Alberta homicide

RCMP are investigating a suspicious death in central Alberta over the weekend that police believe was a homicide.

On Feb. 11, 2024, at 12:15 p.m., Maskwacis RCMP received a report of a deceased person in a residence on 6 Mile on Samson Cree Nation. Upon arrival, police located a deceased male. Mounties say the circumstances around the death were suspicious, so the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take over the investigation.

RCMP say the deceased was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Edmonton. Police are treating the death as a homicide. The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Gordelle Soosay.

Later that evening on Feb. 11, 2024, at 7:55 p.m. RCMP received a report of a vehicle fire south of Highway 611 near 3 Mile, on Samson Cree Nation. Officers located an Audi sedan and determined that it belonged to the deceased.
