Man sentenced to six months in jail after defrauding Stettler hotel of over $160,000
A Stettler man accused of defrauding a Stettler hotel of over $160,000, has been sentenced to six months in jail and 12 months of probation.
Michael Dandan Diongzon, 44, was convicted on one count of theft over $5000 and sentenced in Stettler Court of Justice on Feb. 8, 2024. He was previously ordered to pay $168,851.31 in restitution after being convicted of fraud over $5000 on Nov. 23, 2023.
It was on June 20, 2022, when Stettler RCMP received a report of a significant fraud from a local hotel in Stettler. Mounties say the investigation revealed that over a period of time, the suspect transferred over $160,000 from the hotel to their personal bank account.
As a result of the investigation, on April 18, 2023, RCMP arrested a suspect.
