Feb 6, 2024 | 10:30 AM

The Battle of Alberta Speedcubing competition will be held at Red Deer Polytechnic on Saturday Feb. 10, starting at 9:00 a.m. in the Cenovus Energy Learning Common.

Organizers say this unique event will include 132 competitors from across Alberta will be solving five twisty puzzles; the 2×2 cube, 5×5 cube, Megaminx, Pyraminx, and the main event, the traditional 3×3 Rubik’s cube.

Officials note that some of the fastest solvers in the world will be competing, including Kyle Santucci who is ranked 21st in the world for a single 3×3 solve and is currently the Canadian record holder for 2×2, with a 0.58 second solve.

Organizers say Canada’s current record holder for the Megaminx puzzle in both single solve and average solve, Lucas Kuczaj, will also be competing.

This event is described as unique in that it will not only pit competitors against each other, but Northern Alberta cubers against Southern Alberta cubers using highway 11 as the dividing line.

Officials say this friendly competition will determine for this year anyway, the best cubers in the northern or southern of Alberta.
