UPDATE: Police incident in Red Deer’s Pines results in no charges

RCMP say that on Jan. 20, just before 5:30 a.m., Red Deer Mounties received a report of a firearms dispute involving a gun on Parke Avenue, near Phelan Crescent.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff clarifies that a neighbour in the apartment building (at 7156 Parke Avenue) called police after being able to hear a conversation that mentioned guns.

Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with occupants of the apartment, but were unsuccessful.

“Officers contained the area and deployed the Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team,” RCMP say. “Eventually four individuals exited the apartment and were taken into custody while RCMP conducted an investigation.”

RCMP confirmed that a dispute did occur, however firearms were not located. All individuals have been released without charges, and the investigation is over.

UPDATE: Jan. 20, 2024, 12:40 p.m. 

Red Deer RCMP would like to advise the public that the situation is now resolved.

The heavy police presence and shelter in place have been lifted. Alberta RCMP would like to thank the public for their cooperation.

An additional release is anticipated once more information is available.

RCMP are advising of a heavy police presence in Red Deer’s Pines neighbourhood.

Police are on scene at Parke Avenue and Phelan Crescent, according to a release sent out just before 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

This is in relation to a high-risk arrest.

Residents of the complex have been asked to shelter in place while police tend to the situation. Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice.

RCMP ask that no photos of responding officers are placed on social media until after the incident is over.

An update will be provided once the scene is clear, RCMP say.
