Stay of proceedings for Bowden man accused of selling drugs from a business in Olds

There has been a stay of proceedings for a Bowden man accused of selling drugs from a business in Olds.

Lyle Maitland Andrus, 61, had his court matters stayed on Nov. 24, 2023. He was previously scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Didsbury Court of Justice on Dec. 20, 2023, to determine if his case had enough evidence to go to trial.

Andrus was facing 10 drug-related counts against him.

RCMP in Olds say they began their investigation in December 2022.

As a result of their investigation, on Feb. 2, 2023, Olds RCMP with the assistance of RCMP Emergency Response Team, RCMP Police Dog Section, Southern Alberta District General Investigative Section, Alberta RCMP Interview Team and Didsbury Detachment, executed search warrants at a business in Olds, as well as a residence in Bowden.

As a result of those searches, RCMP seized:

  • 77 grams on suspected Cocaine Methamphetamine
  • 69 grams of suspected Fentanyl
  • 2.5 grams of suspected Heroin
  • 1,354.75 grams of Cannabis
  • 10 grams of Cannabis resin
  • Small amounts of Metronidazole, Adderall, Codeine, Lyrica, Cyclobenzaprine, Lorazepam, Hydro Morphine, LSD
  • 18 grams of Psilocybin
  • 1 Shotgun
  • 1 replica firearm
  • 8 Pellet guns
  • A taser device
  • 60 assorted edged weapons

RCMP initially charged Andrus with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking (x3)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon or restricted weapon (x4)
  • Offences under the Cannabis Act (x2)
