New doctor finally comes on at Apollo Health Centre in Blackfalds

Dec 21, 2023 | 1:31 PM

A new physician is practicing full-time out of the Apollo Health Centre in Blackfalds, AHS confirmed on Thursday.

Dr. Nkechi Gbenoba-Okumiahor will also work out of Red Deer Regional Hospital. She is currently accepting patients and can be reached at 587-797-4088.

“I have keen interest in family medicine and I am dedicated to providing comprehensive medical care to patients,” says Dr. Gbenoba-Okumiahor, who completed her medical education in 2013 in Nigeria. “With my broad experience and passion for my profession, I look forward to joining the teams at the Apollo Medical Clinic in Blackfalds and Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre.”

AHS notes that it continues to recruit for physicians across the Central Zone to meet community needs.

“AHS has physician resource planners who are dedicated to identifying and pursuing international and domestic physician recruitment opportunities,” AHS says. “They work closely with various community partners and organizations, such as local Health Advisory Councils, the Rural Health Professions Action Plan, and independent physician recruitment and retention committees.”

rdnewsNOW recently reported that the future of Apollo Medical was somewhat still up in the air.

The owner, Dr. Muti Kauchali, who also runs a clinic in Delburne, has had a tough time recruiting. Blackfalds town council, in October, approved a municipal loan for the clinic to enable it to stay open until new doctors came onboard.

Kauchali’s Delburne clinic is also getting funding from the village and Red Deer County.
