Dec 21, 2023 | 4:59 PM

A man from Springbrook is facing 18 charges following his arrest earlier this month.

RCMP say it was Dec. 11 when Innisfail RCMP received a report of a break and enter at a rural property near Spruce View.

They say various items were stolen during the incident, including firearms, a generator and chainsaws.

During the investigation, a suspect was determined, and then on Dec. 15, RCMP arrested the suspect near his vehicle on outstanding warrants. At the time, police say, he was in Red Deer County walking towards a rural property.

During said arrest, police say they observed the generator and chainsaws stolen from the break and enter, within the suspect’s vehicle.

The suspect’s vehicle was seized, and search warrants were obtained for both the vehicle and his Springbrook home. From the vehicle, police say they seized stolen property and break-in tools, plus stolen guns from within the residence.

RCMP add that while in custody, the suspect threatened to slit an officer’s throat. While being fingerprinted, the suspect allegedly also damaged the police fingerprinting machine by throwing it to the ground.

Keith Daniel Thomas, 43, a resident of Springbrook, is charged with:

  • Possession of a prohibited weapon
  • Failure to comply with a release order (x6)
  • Failure to comply with a probation order (x2)
  • Uttering threats
  • Possession of a firearm (x2)
  • Improper storage of a firearm (x2)
  • Possession of stolen property (x3)
  • Mischief to Property under $5000.

The investigation continues, police say.

“Innisfail Detachment is grateful for the assistance of the Central Alberta Crime Reduction Unit and their work in combating rural property crime, “ says Staff Sergeant Ian Ihme Detachment Commander Innisfail RCMP.

Thomas appeared before a Justice of the Peace and was remanded into custody. His next court appearance is set for Jan. 3, 2024 at the Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer.
