rebels lose 6th straight to Saskaton

Blades double up Rebels 4-2 in Saskatoon

Dec 8, 2023 | 10:23 PM

The Saskatoon Blades (now 19-8-1-0) have thus far this season had the Red Deer Rebels’ (13-11-0-3) number, beating them 2-1 on Oct. 21, and again 4-2 on Friday night at the SaskTel Centre.

It was of course the Blades who stormed back from three games down to reverse sweep the Rebels in the second round of last year’s WHL Playoffs, meaning they’ve now won six straight against Red Deer.

With the win, the Blades maintain a three-point edge on Medicine Hat for first in the Eastern Conference, while Red Deer is fourth in the Central Division and holding down the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference — four points ahead of Calgary.

Rebels Head Coach Derrick Walser spoke post-game…

Scoring summary

On Friday, it was the Egor Sidorov show — notching his fourth hat trick this season. The import Anaheim Ducks’ prospect even did it in front of his parents, the WHL notes.

Sidorov (26th) got the party started at 7:58 of the first period to make it 1-0 Blades.

With 2:16 remaining in the first, Samuel Drancak (5th) equalized for Red Deer, and it was 1-1 after 20 minutes.

At 6:14 of the second, Sidorov (27th) put Saskatoon ahead again, this time on the power play. The period ended 2-1 Blades.

In the third, Drancak (6th) tied it again with his second of the night at 11:43.

Less than two minutes later, however, Trevor Wong scored the eventual game-winner, Sidorov assisting.

Sidorov scored into the empty net at 19:52 to seal 4-2 deal and his four point night.
