Craving a good chuckle? The Hungry For Laughs Tour is in Red Deer this Saturday

Nov 3, 2023 | 11:15 AM

Looking around, it seems the world is starving for some laughter.

Five performers surely are, and they’re going to help feed Red Deer by bringing Alex Mackenzie’s Hungry for Laughs Tour to the Memorial Centre (4214 58 St.) this Saturday.

On November 4 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m., the one-of-a-kind show features some of the biggest names in Canadian comedy, a world-class magician, and an international foot archer, banding together to “Stand up to hunger. It’s no laughing matter”, as they say.

The performers have been featured on Netflix, Just for Laughs, MTV, HBO, Conan O’Brien, Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas, NBA half-time shows, Britain’s Got Talent, and even performed for The Queen of England, among other world stages.

They include:

  • Alex Mackenzie: from Prince George, BC, Mackenzie quit his six-figure job in 2019 as a power engineer and instrumentation mechanic, sold his house and moved into an RV with his dog Finley to become a stand-up comedian. Since then, he has become an international hit on stage and online with his videos reaching millions of views, his style focusing on positivity.
  • Orissa Kelly: Debuting her unique Foot Archery act on Britain’s Got Talent, Kelly shoots a bow and arrow from a variety of acrobatic positions. She is the only person in the United Kingdon to do so and the only one in the world to do it on fire. She’s been in blockbuster films for her talent and performed on every continent while on tour.
  • Wes Barker: a stand-up comedian and magician, Barker has been on various television series and talk shows.
  • Ivan Decker: From Vancouver, Decker is a stand-up comedian and writer known for his witty observational comedy. He has performed in Just For Laughs Festivals, television, and radio. He was named “Comic To Watch” by TBS at the New York Comedy Festival, and appeared on Conan and Netflix. His debut comedy album “I Wanted to be a Dinosaur” was the recipient of the 2018 JUNO award for “Comedy Album of the Year”.
  • Simon King: Over two decades in stand-up comedy, King has performed in numerous comedy festivals worldwide, as well as theatres, comedy clubs and dive bars, and on television and radio.

Tickets can be purchased online for $50.

Part of the proceeds from the event will go to local charity Saving Grace Animal Society in Alix.
