Town of Olds under Boil Water Advisory

The Town of Olds has issued a Boil Water Advisory alert.

The alert was issued on Oct. 29, 2023, at 4:54 p.m.

Due to continued water discoloration, Town officials say the Boil Water Advisory is due to a power failure at the Mountain View Regional Water Services Commission’s water treatment plant.

Meantime, AHS says it was notified about a lack of water pressure, increased turbidity and water discolouration over the weekend following an issue at the treatment plant. Of the communities whose residential water is treated at this plant, AHS says only Olds’ supply is impacted. AHS says it will be working with the Town, Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA), and the system operator to ensure the issue is corrected and water is safe for consumption.

All residents and businesses within the Town are advised to bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to any consumption, including:

AHS says water used for bathing or washing clothes does not need to be boiled. For handwashing, wash with soap and water and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing more than 60 per cent alcohol after drying your hands. Residents may instead choose to purchase bottled water for consumption.

AHS further points out, the Olds Hospital and Care Centre operates on a water supply that is isolated from the Town’s. As such, the site continues to provide all essential services as per usual at this time and as a precaution, is temporarily restricting some non-essential water usage to ensure adequate supply until a water truck arrives onsite.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the situation, including sampling and testing of the drinking water to ensure it is safe for consumption.
