Rebels drop first of seven straight away from home to Hitmen

Oct 28, 2023 | 9:52 PM

In the first of nine meetings this season, Saturday at the Saddledome saw the Rebels fall 7-4 to the Calgary Hitmen in what was an 86-shot goalie’s nightmare.

Red Deer came in sporting a 5-6-0-1 record, one point better than the Hitmen’s 4-7-2-0.

Scoring summary

Red Deer controlled this game early, leading 2-0 after 20 minutes.

That included a power play goal from Kai Uchacz (6th) at 13:23, and then Elias Carmichael (1st) scoring at 15:26.

The second, however, was all Hitmen, to say the least.

First Carter MacAdams (3rd) scored just 2:30 into the frame, cutting the deficit to one.

Oliver Tulk (8th) tied it at the 8:03 mark, and then Reese Hamilton (4th) gave Calgary its first lead at 10:25.

Carter Yakemchuk (5th) made it 4-2 Calgary with a power play marker at 14:56, and that’s how the teams headed to the third.

The Hitmen goals kept on coming when Ben Kindel (3rd) got the eventual game-winner just 51 seconds into the period.

Then at 2:52, David Adaszynski (2nd) scored the sixth unanswered goal for Calgary, and it was 6-2 for the home team.

Red Deer made it interesting late though; Uchacz (7th) got his second of the night, again on the power play, at 10:53.

Then Carson Latimer (7th) made it 6-4 just 1:09 later.

But it was too little, too late, and Tyson Greenway (2nd) sealed the 7-4 deal with an empty netter at 19:04.
