Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour coming to Red Deer in support of Saving Grace Animal Society

Sep 19, 2023 | 1:19 PM

Comedian Alex Mackenzie, known for his sharp wit and hilarious stand-up routines, is embarking on an extraordinary journey to raise awareness for the Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour.

In a bold move, Mackenzie will undertake a 14-day water fast, consuming only water, with the aim of selling 1000 tickets to the upcoming tour, set to captivate audiences across eight cities.

Organizers say this incredible endeavour serves a dual purpose: promoting laughter and supporting local non-profit organizations.

The Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour set to kick off Oct.6, 2023, is described as a unique variety act that features three talented comedians, a mesmerizing stunt magician, and an international foot archer. Audiences can expect an unforgettable evening filled with laughter, magic, and jaw-dropping feats of archery.

The tour will visit the following cities: Kamloops BC, Vancouver BC, Duncan BC, Vernon BC, Kelowna BC, Grande Prairie AB, Red Deer AB, and Prince George BC.

The shows will be hosted in the most prestigious venues in each city, providing an exceptional entertainment experience for attendees.

What sets the Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour apart is its commitment to giving back to the communities it visits. Partial proceeds from each event will be donated to local non-profit organizations, including Food Banks, Women’s Shelters, Animal Sanctuaries, Mental Health Associations, and Hospice Societies. This initiative reflects the tour’s dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of those in need.

Alex Mackenzie’s 14-day water fast is expected to serve as a captivating and unconventional fundraising method to draw attention to this noble cause. By pushing the boundaries of endurance, Mackenzie aims to inspire individuals to join the cause, purchase tickets to the tour, and support the local non-profits that benefit from these events.

“I believe in the power of laughter and the importance of giving back to the community,” said Alex Mackenzie. “By taking on this challenging water fast, I hope to raise awareness for the Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour and encourage people to come together in support of our mission. Let’s share the gift of laughter while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

Officials say the Hungry for Laughs Comedy Tour promises to be an incredible evening of entertainment, and Alex Mackenzie’s dedication to fasting for 14 days to promote the tour is a testament to his commitment to the cause.

Saving Grace Animal Society says it is ecstatic to be selected as the non profit recipient of proceeds from the Hungry for Laughs comedy tour Red Deer stop for the 2nd year in a row.

Officials acknowledge that last year, ticket sales were low and this year they are determined to sell out.

“We’ve already sold more tickets than last year as of now but have a long ways to go,” reads a statement from Saving Grace Animal Society.

The Red Deer Hungry for Laughs comedy show takes place Nov. 4, 2023, at 7:30 p.m. at the Red Deer Memorial Centre. Tickets are $50 and available online at www.hungryforlaughs.com

“Rescue is an absolute crisis right now. 2023 has tested us to our limits and it seems almost every day we are in crisis mode at Saving Grace. The calls for help keep coming and those willing to help keeps dwindling, it is a tough time for everyone. We are so grateful for any help from our community to help us get through the rest of this year,” say Saving Grace officials.
