many high-scoring films

Central Alberta Film Festival returns this October

Sep 19, 2023 | 10:37 AM

The seventh annual Central Alberta Film Festival (CAFF) is fast approaching, and it looks to be one of the best ever.

Films submitted for consideration for the festival are all scored by film industry judges, such as directors, producers, and college or university instructors from film and arts departments.

Fourteen films scored an eight or higher out of ten this year, which Submissions Coordinator Heather Thiessen explains is a substantial accomplishment since scoring is an average from four expert judges.

“It’s exciting to see the quality of submissions get better every year,” Thiessen said. “And it’s energizing to see the quality of film makers from Alberta. We have submissions from eight countries this year and our Alberta film makers are rocking it.”

The festival runs Oct. 18-21 at Carnival Cinemas, and ends with a gala awards ceremony off-site. It is run entirely by volunteers.

“If you love watching movies, especially films you can’t see in most theatres, volunteering for Central Alberta Film Festival is the way to go,” said Brent LaBrosse, CAFF Volunteer Coordinator. “Volunteers get to watch some of the films while they are working.”

Anyone interested in volunteering at the festival should email Brent LaBrosse at labross1@telus.net.
