Here are the Weekly Top-10 Rankings for all four Tiers of 12-man high school football in Alberta and the 6-man rankings as well for the 2023 season.

These rankings will come out every Sunday from now up until November 6. At that time those will be the last rankings and teams will take this rank into Provincials

Some re-sorting of Tier’s will take place after the final officials population numbers are recorded at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

GAME OF THE WEEK:

The Sisyphus Game!

Tier III

#2 Holy Rosary Raiders at #1 Cochrane Cobras

4:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, Cobra Field (Cochrane)

In Greek mythology, Sisyphus was the founder and king of Ephyra (now known as Corinth). Hades punished him for cheating death twice by forcing him to roll an immense boulder up a hill. Sadly, it would roll back down every night for him to start again the next morning and this action was repeated for eternity. His name is routinely used to describe causes that repeatedly end in failure only to be repeated again and again. Thus, we present the Holy Rosary Raiders. Arguably a Top-10 program for all Tier’s for over the past decade and a half, they have defeated all comers handily – with one exception.

For six straight seasons from 2015-2021 (excluding the COVID break in 2020) these two teams met in the ASAA Provincial Tier III Final and the Cobras were victorious every time. Last year, Cochrane opted up to Tier I, which opened the door for the Raiders who ran the board in Provincials only giving up a single touchdown in three games on their way to their first ASAA Tier III Title. Still, there is unfinished business for the Raiders. Cochrane may still opt up this year but the regular season provides an opportunity for both teams to play prior to Provincials for the first time ever. Will that rock finally stay up at the top of the hill, or will the Raiders find it back at the bottom again? Hosted in Cochrane High School’s brand new artificial turf stadium this is one not to be missed.

BEST OF THE REST

TIER I

#3 Ernest Manning Griffins vs. #6 Notre Dame Pride

7:30 p.m., Friday, September 15, Hellard Field at Shouldice Park (Calgary)

So far this season it doesn’t look like the Griffin’s 2022 Calgary Division I Championship was a one-off. Now after a 2-0 start they face one of the traditional powers. This will be a statement game if there ever was one for both teams.

#9 Bev Facey Falcons vs. #10 Paul Kane Blues

7:30 p.m., Friday, September 15, Riel Park (St. Albert)

So which team is the next up and coming power to challenge the big dogs in the Metro Edmonton Division one league? We’ll find out this Friday.

TIER I & II

#1 (Tier II) Holy Trinity Academy Knights at #8 (Tier I) Foothills Falcons

6:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, Falcon Field (Okotoks)

Its not for bragging rights at any Tier or for Provincials representation, but the Battle of Okotoks is must see football in the Calgary area each year. Can be watched as a webcast on www.team1sports.com .

6-A-SIDE

#5 Breton Cougars at #1 Millwood Christian Royals

1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 14, Millwoods Christian High School (Edmonton)

A big homecoming kickoff for MWC, the defending Provincial 6-a-Side Champs, as the tiny school that could – Breton – comes to town with dreams of starting their own title run.
