Smoky skies for many parts of central Alberta
A Special Air Quality Statement is in effect for the Red Deer-Ponoka-Innisfail-Stettler regions today.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), smoke is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility. Officials say wildfire smoke concentrations can fluctuate over short distances and vary considerably from hour to hour.
The smoke is expected to move out of the area by the weekend.
Other nearby areas under the same Special Air Quality Statement include Airdrie-Cochrane-Olds-Sundre, Rocky Mountain House-Caroline, Nordegg-Forestry Trunk Road Highway 734, and Drumheller-Three Hills.
