Local golfers compete at Alberta Super Senior Championship

A large contingent of central Alberta golfers have wrapped up competition at the Alberta Super Senior Championship from The Canal at Delacour in Rocky View, Alberta this week.

Keith Newton from the Olds Golf Club finished tied for 11th overall at +5 after shooting a 70 in Round 1 on Monday, Aug. 28, and a 79 in Round 2 on Aug. 29, for a total of 149.

Les Swelin of the Sundre Golf Club finished tied for 25th overall at +11 after shooting an 80 in Round 1 and a 75 in Round 2 for a total of 155.

Rick Dolan of the River Bend Golf Club in Red Deer finished tied for 25th overall at +11 after shooting a 77 in Round 1 and 78 in Round 2 for a total of 155.

Bowman Husted from the Red Deer Golf and Country Club finished tied for 48th overall at +20 after shooting an 83 in Round 1 and an 81 in Round 2 for a total of 164.

Chuck Ruether from the Lacombe Golf and Country Club finished tied for 53rd overall at +22 after shooting an 83 in both Round 1 and 2 for a total of 166.

Don Ware from Coyote Creek Golf and Country Club in Sundre finished tied for 53rd overall at +22 after also shooting an 83 in both Rounds 1 and 2 for a total of 166.

Tom Sr. McKinlay of the Lacombe Golf and Country Club finished tied for 59th overall at +25 after shooting an 81 in Round 1 and an 88 in Round 2 for a total of 169.

However, it was David Schultz from Country Hills Golf Club who defeated Norman Bradley from Kelowna Golf and Country Club on the 3rd playoff hole with a par as Bradley’s par attempt just slipped by.

Schultz shot 70-69 for a 5-under total, matched by Bradley’s 68-71 5-under par.

Former champion Frank Van Dornick finished 3rd, 2 shots out of the playoff.
