Garage & Bake Sale helps Golden Circle provide quality of life programming for older adults

Aug 26, 2023 | 3:44 PM

If you missed day one of the garage and bake sale bonanza happening at the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre this weekend, don’t worry; it’ll still be there Sunday.

Items galore, plus homemade baked goods — namely butter tarts with raisins, of course — are just waiting to be gobbled up.

Of course, it’s all in support of what the Golden Circle offers its patrons, which according to Executive Director Amber Mack, is enhancing their ability to live healthy and have fun.

“The reason we fundraise with events like this garage and bake sale is to provide activities and services for older adults so they can age well in their home, in the place right for them, and in a place of their choosing,” she says. “To be able to fund activities and social events, it decreases social isolation, increases social inclusion and gives them a better quality of life.”

Through the Golden Circle, older adults have access to programs such as housekeeping, home maintenance, lawn and yard care, and snow removal.

“Older adults often want to stay in their homes but are unable to perform some day-to-day tasks they’ve been doing until a certain point in their life,” adds Mack. “These programs help those people stay where they want to be.”

The garage and bake sale continues Sunday from 9 a.m. until noon..
