Ponoka RCMP investigate youth-involved robbery at local liquor store

Ponoka RCMP are investigating a youth-involved robbery at a local liquor store.

On June 15 at 7:03 p.m., Ponoka RCMP say they received a report of a robbery at a liquor store in the Town of Ponoka.

Upon arrival, officers arrested a male who had been allegedly detained by staff.

They state investigation revealed that three suspects entered the store and allegedly began stuffing liquor into their clothing. When confronted by an employee, one of the suspects allegedly broke a wine bottle and assaulted the employee causing minor injury.

The two additional suspects fled.

RCMP have charged a 17-year-old resident of Montana First Nation with robbery.

The youth has been released for a future court date in Ponoka.

While RCMP continue to investigate, they are asking for public assistance in identifying the additional suspects. RCMP have provided surveillance photos of the suspects in hopes that they will be identified.
