RDLIP launches anti-racism asset mapping survey

Jun 17, 2023 | 12:14 PM

Red Deer Local Immigration Partnership (RDLIP) says it is building on a 2021 survey it conducted on racism in the city.

Among other things, the survey found that 49.8 per cent of respondents believe racism in Red Deer is worse here than it is elsewhere.

RDLIP also oversaw the ‘Proud to be your neighbour’ campaign over the last couple years.

Now, RDLIP will undertake a new survey, headed by Red Deer Polytechnic professors of sociology, Dr. Choon-Lee Chai and Dr. Jones Adjei, to identify anti-racism resources in Red Deer.

“In order to make Red Deer a home community that welcomes all, we must first identify the resources that can help to make life more inclusive and where people can feel as if they belong,” says Gordana Jovanovic, outreach and communications coordinator, RDLIP.

Jovanovic believes the new survey, or asset mapping project, can be a building block for creating a permanent home for newcomers.
