It’s one year in jail for a central Alberta man charged in connection with an assault involving a firearm in Ponoka last year.

Sonny Don Threefingers, 34, of Maskwacis, was sentenced in Ponoka Court of Justice on June 9, 2023, and was also sentenced to two months of probation following his release and a lifetime firearms prohibition.

Threefingers was convicted on counts of use of an imitation firearm in the commission of an offence, and threats causing death/bodily harm.

It was on May 23, 2022, when Ponoka RCMP received a complaint of an assault at a residence in the town of Ponoka.

Mounties say their investigation revealed that three individuals arrived at the victim’s home and attacked the residents outside. At one point, police say a firearm was pointed at the homeowner.

Maskwacis RCMP assisted and located the vehicle involved at a residence in Ermineskin First Nation. RCMP were able to arrest one of the suspects.

RCMP then issued a warrant for the arrest of a second suspect, Sonny Don Threefingers.

Threefingers co-accused, Randy Kale Potts, 32, of Maskwacis, had all 10 counts against her withdrawn in Ponoka provincial court on Aug. 26, 2022.
