On site will be a safe disposal section for free electronics and battery recycling as well as a bottle drive trailer, fundraising for the West Park Gardens Park Redevelopment Project. Residents can also email or message the WPCA to have them pick up bottles at their home on the evening of May 12 or during the day on May 13.

The project partners with the City of Red Deer to design a multi-generational community park in the green space southwest of the West Park Shopping Centre. The first phase was completed this January and includes the construction of a gazebo and a stage for a proposed amphitheater, surrounding landscaping, ramp accessibility, benches and a barbeque pad.

Phase two will consist of a paved trail, new trees, a natural amphitheater, benches and picnic tables, public orchard, enhanced sledding hill and games node for outdoor ping pong and chess. The WPCA is looking to fundraise $28,000 towards the $205,500 budget.

A Community Garage Sale will be taking place over the entire weekend at various resident homes including:

• 42 Welliver St: Household items, tools, women’s clothing, luggage, rebuilt 1974 Ford truck
  • Friday 3-8 p.m. / Saturday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. / Sunday starting at 11 a.m.
• 5750 41 St Cr (Back alley): Tools, furniture, kids toys, 1982 Honda Goldwing motorcycle
  • Friday 3-7 p.m. / Saturday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
• 173 Wilson Cr: Household items, rustic country decor, ladies clothing
  • Friday 6-9 p.m. / Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• 41 Welliver St: Tools, electronics, kids toys, tons of collectables
  • Saturday 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.
• 121 Wiltshire Blvd: Lots of toys, kids items, swing set w/slide
  • Saturday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• 5410 37 St (Backyard):
  • Saturday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Finally, the WPCA’s first ever Seed & Perennial Plant Exchange will take place at the Gazebo (3722 57 Ave) by the Garden Boxes from 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Perennial plants are those living more than two years.
