Dry, Windy Conditions

Town of Ponoka Fire Ban expands

May 6, 2023 | 9:11 PM

UPDATE – MAY 8: The Town of Ponoka has removed ‘no mowing’ restrictions from the local fire ban.

Citizens can resume lawn mowing and lawn maintenance operations, although they are asked to continue using extreme caution when operating any equipment that could cause a spark, including cutting tools (grinders, welders, etc.)

More on the current restrictions is below…

Due to dry, windy conditions and an extreme fire hazard across much of the province, the Town of Ponoka has expanded its current Fire Ban to include the following new restrictions:

  • No cigarette butts or ashes may be discarded anywhere except into appropriate receptacles or enclosed ashtrays designed specifically for that purpose.

Under the Fire Ban, the following restrictions continue to be in effect:

  • No open fires are permitted within the Town of Ponoka corporate limits;
  • No use of fire pits;
  • No fireworks; and
  • No use of wood or charcoal burning outdoor appliances.

The use of propane and natural gas barbeques is still permitted at this time although citizens are advised to use extreme caution when operating their barbeques.

The Fire Ban will remain in effect until further notice. Thank you for helping to keep our community safe.
