Preliminary new temperature records set throughout central Alberta again Thursday

The current heat wave throughout much of Alberta this week has resulted in more record high temperatures being broken on Thursday.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, a preliminary new record high for May 4 of 29.5 degrees Celsius was set in Lacombe on Thursday, beating the old record of 28.9 degrees Celsius set in 1944. Records in this area have been kept since 1907.

In the Rocky Mountain House area, a preliminary new record high of 28.5 degrees Celsius was set on May 4, beating the old record of 26.7 degrees Celsius set in 1992. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

In the Nordegg area, a preliminary new record of 26.0 degrees Celsius was set on May 4, beating the previous record high of 23.0 degrees Celsius set in 1992. Records in this area have been kept since 1915.

In the Sundre area, a preliminary new record high of 27.7 degrees Celsius was for May 4, surpassing the old record high for that date of 25.2 degrees Celsius set in 2016. Records in this area have been kept since 1993.

In the Breton area, a preliminary new record high for May 4 of 29.7 degrees Celsius was set in on Thursday, beating the old record of 27.0 degrees Celsius set in 1992. Records in this area have been kept since 1939.

In the Stettler area, a preliminary new record high of 30.2 degrees Celsius was set on May 4, beating the old record high of 28.6 degrees Celsius set in 2016. Records in this area have been kept since 1918.

Finally, in the Three Hills area, a preliminary new record high for May 4 of 29.6 degrees Celsius was set on Thursday, beating the old record of 28.9 degrees Celsius set in 1944. Records in this area have been kept since 1921.
