The Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA) has put out a Wildfire Alert advisory for Ponoka County.

On Wednesday at 4:36 p.m., the AEMA put out the Emergency Alert for everyone in the area northwest of the Town of Ponoka.

They say there is a wildfire 8 km northwest of the town, near Range Road 265 and Township Road 433 and that it is moving northwest.

They added that homes on Township Road 434 near Highway 795 were evacuating.

Officials advised others in the area north and northwest of Township Road 434 and Highway 795 to prepare for a possible evacuation.

Those who evacuated are to go to the Reception Centre at the Ponoka Legion (3911 Highway 2A) to register or call 1-403-0783-3333 if in need of assistance.

Ponoka County officials wrote on their website that the wildfire is in proximity to the Battle River valley between Section 35-43-27-W4 and NW 17-43-26-W4.

In an update at 4:52 p.m., they stated the alert is in effect for 23 hours and 13 minutes.

In central Alberta, the AEMA also put out a critical Wildfire Alert for Brazeau County for everyone southeast of Drayton Valley, located southwest of Edmonton, resulting in an evacuation order.
