Discovery of meth leads to arrest of pair in Didsbury hotel room

Didsbury RCMP have charged two people, including one from Red Deer, following two investigations which spanned the night between April 22 and 23.

RCMP say it was about 9:40 p.m on the 22nd when members attended a local hotel to complete a court release order compliance check for someone who’d been charged with a crime in Saskatchewan.

After discovering the man was, allegedly, failing to comply with the conditions of his release order, he was arrested, but RCMP then entered into an unrelated investigation linked to people in another room at the same hotel.

Now 5 a.m. on the 23rd, officers executed a search warrant at the hotel and arrested two people; this after locating approximately 20 grams of methamphetamine inside the hotel room.

Cody Desjarlais, 35, of Edmonton, and Michelle Schmidt, 43, of Red Deer were arrested.

RCMP say Desjarlais had an outstanding arrest warrant from Mayerthorpe, while Schmidt had an outstanding arrest warrant from Edmonton and five outstanding arrest warrants from Red Deer.

Schmidt was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking and was remanded into custody. The investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending. Schmidt’s next court appearance is May 1.
