Red Deer man sentenced in local homicide
A Red Deer man charged in a local homicide has been sentenced to over six-and-a-half years in jail along with a lifetime firearms ban.
Dustin Mitchell, 27, was sentenced to 79 months behind bars in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on January 13, 2023, after being convicted on one count of manslaughter/use of a firearm.
He was previously scheduled for trial in Red Deer on March 20, 2023, after the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) chose to proceed on the matter by way of direct indictment.
Mitchell was originally charged with second-degree murder in the death of 34-year-old James Rufiange, of Red Deer.
