The Friends of the Red Deer Public Library Society’s downtown branch will be hosting their free monthly classical music concert this Thursday.

From 12:15 – 1 p.m. on March 2 at the library’s Snell auditorium (4818 49 St), Red Deerians can listen to the singing voices of Joyce Emms and Angela Siemens as sopranos, alongside Vernon Murgatroyd on piano.

The concert is part of one of the library’s signature programs called “First Thursday” where a free concert is offered during lunchtime on the first Thursday of each month.

This month’s program includes:

  • Alleluia (Exsultate, jubilate) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arranged by Patrick M. Liebergen
  • Laudamus Te (Gloria) by Antonio Vivaldi
  • Flight by Craig Carnelia
  • The Prayer by Carol Bayer Sager & David Foster
  • Hark, the Echoing Air by Henry Purcell- Joyce Emms
  • Morirò by Pauline Viardot- Angela Siemens
  • Sonatina #4 in E Major by Johann Ladislaus Dussek (1761-1812)- Vernon Murgatroyd
  • Le Prisonnier by Maria Malibran
  • Barcarolle (Les Contes d’Hoffman) by Jacques Offenbach
  • Sous le dôme épais (Lakmé) by Léo Delibes

The Red Deer Public Library is asking guests to pre-register for the concert on their website or by calling 403-346-4576. They say those who do not register will have to wait until staff can determine if enough chairs are available.

The concerts will also be livestreamed on the Library’s website and on their YouTube channel.

The Society also gave thanks to those who have made donations in support of the First Thursday concerts. The say the funds have been used to pay fees and expenses for the musicians presenting at the Library. For those wishing to support the concerts, the Society says cheques should be made out to the Red Deer Public Library, with a memo for CONCERTS and a charitable receipt will be issued.
