Registration for the 12th annual Red Deer PCN Fun Run opens Feb. 20.

Always a great time, the event returns to Capstone after its inaugural run there in 2022; and it all goes down May 13.

Race Director Bre Fitzpatrick says if fun is what you’re looking for, fun is what you’ll get with this event.

Says Fitzpatrick, “It’s all about healthy lifestyles, getting moving, and getting connected to community. We know that moving is good for your body, and want people to know they can have fun doing it.”

PJ Swales, director of Xplore Sport Day, which happens in conjunction with the PCN (Primary Care Network) Fun Run, says, “We really want to build community, and see people reconnect with their neighbours and friends. People are looking for opportunities to move and have fun.”

Xplore Sport Day also includes the Rising Star Awards, the recipients of which are nominated by their local sports teams. There will be a smorgasbord of sports which attendees can try out, Swales adds.

As for the Fun Run, Fitzpatrick is optimistic they can surpass the recent numbers closer to 1,500, and hit 2,000 registrants.

“We know lots of families are struggling and trying to make good choices around what they do with their finances,” says Fitzpatrick. “That’s why we’ve decided to lower registration fees. That way, more people can come out and enjoy this.”

Early bird registration until Mar. 31 is $25, then goes to $30 for Apr. 1 to May 10, and walk-up is $35, for people 16 and up. 15 and under, rates are $10 up until May 10 and $15 at walk-up.

All ages, genders and abilities are welcome at the run, as well as dogs.

There are multiple distances, including 10 km, 5 km, 3 km, 1 km, and the 500 m and 100 m for kids under five-years-old.
