The Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP) Psychology Society has announced their annual symposium this March titled “Take a trip with us through the history, hype and hope of psychedelics”.

On Tuesday, March 21 from 6-9 p.m. at the Red Deer Arts Centre (100 College Blvd), officials say this year’s conference, returning in-person, will feature a panel of experts who will delve into the topic of psilocybin, also known as magic mushrooms.

The Society says from its historical context to current research and future potential, the expert panelists will offer a multidisciplinary perspective on the subject. They say the experts will also explore the therapeutic benefits of psilocybin, which has gained increased attention in recent years as a possible treatment for a range of mental health issues.

The Society says attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the panel.

“We are thrilled to bring together this group of experts to discuss the exciting developments in the field of psilocybin research,” said Chiyla Heymeyer, President of the Society. “We believe that education and open discussion are the key to understanding the potential therapeutic benefits of this substance, and we hope that this symposium will provide a platform for informed dialogue.”

The symposium is open to the public, ages 18 and over, and tickets are available for purchase online.

“Whether you are a mental health professional, a curious individual, or simply someone who wants to learn more about this fascinating topic, this symposium is not to be missed,” said officials with the Society in a release.
