Red Deer Hospice Thankful for Holiday Support

Feb 6, 2023 | 3:33 PM

Officials with the Red Deer Hospice are thanking the community for their generosity, kindness and support in response to their 2022 Holiday Campaign.

“We are so grateful to everyone who chose to donate to our organization over the holidays,” said Jerri Taylor, Executive Director at Red Deer Hospice. On Christmas morning, residents received a stocking filled with an assortment of gifts. For dinner, Hospice chefs prepared a delicious turkey feast for each resident and a loved one. We wanted to give our residents and their families one last memorable holiday together,” shared Taylor.

Hospice officials say a portion of the funds raised from the Holiday Campaign will go towards updating the largest gathering room at Red Deer Hospice. The North Family Room is a special area in the home that is used for bereavement support groups, family meetings, as well as events such as wedding anniversaries and birthday parties. Hospice officials hope to refresh the meaningful space, so many more final memories can be made.

Red Deer Hospice is described as a free standing, residential end-of-life care facility that provides 24- hour professional nursing care. Residents are not charged a fee to stay at Hospice. A portion of operating costs are covered by Alberta Health Services, but as a not-for-profit society, Red Deer Hospice depends on donations to meet their annual operational budget and for all capital/equipment purchases.
