Life sentence for man charged in fatal central Alberta shooting

A man charged in a fatal central Alberta shooting two-and-a-half years ago has been sentenced to life behind bars.

Lyle Jamie Bearspaw, 29, of no fixed address, was sentenced in Red Deer Court of King’s Bench on Jan. 24, 2023, and also given a lifetime firearms prohibition after being convicted on one count of second-degree murder.

Bearspaw was charged in relation to a fatal shooting on the O’Chiese First Nation in 2020.

It was just after 8 p.m. on Aug. 27, 2020 when Rocky Mountain House RCMP received a 911 call about a firearms incident that had injured a male.
