Rate of new influenza cases in Central Zone slows over the past week

The rate of new influenza cases, hospitalizations, ICU admissions and flu-related deaths in the AHS Central Zone seems to have slowed down over the past week.

According to Alberta Health, there are currently 1,031 cases of influenza confirmed in the Central Zone as of January 14, 2023, up 10 over the last seven days.

Hospitalizations in the Central Zone due to the flu have risen to 225, up nine from the week before.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions are now at 23, up one from last week, while the number of deaths related to the flu in the Central Zone is now 19 so far this season, up one from the week before.

Elsewhere throughout the province, the Calgary Zone has 2,904 cases of influenza with 747 hospitalizations, 83 ICU admissions and 27 deaths.

The Edmonton Zone has 2,445 cases of influenza, 542 hospitalizations, 54 ICU admissions, and 21 flu-related deaths.

The North Zone currently has 1,531 cases of influenza, 248 hospitalizations, 22 ICU admissions, and 12 deaths.

The South Zone has 667 cases of influenza as of Jan. 14, with 198 hospitalizations, 20 ICU admissions, and 17 flu-related deaths.
