The Central Alberta REALTORS® Association has announced a new leader.

Michael Gouchie officially began his term as Chair of the Central Alberta REALTORS® Association on Jan. 1, 2023.

Officials say Gouchie grew up in Grande Prairie and moved to central Alberta to pursue his passion for hockey, first in Maskawacis with the Hobbema Hawks and then in Red Deer at the then, Red Deer College where he also studied psychology.

After finishing up his degree at the University of Alberta, officials say Gouchie returned to Red Deer to begin his career as a youth worker and counsellor at the Red Deer Remand Centre.

In 1993 he followed his father into the real estate business and has been a member of the Central Alberta REALTORS® Association now into his 30th year. He launched his first brokerage in 1996 and has been the Broker for Royal LePage Lifestyles Realty since 2000 in partnership with his wife Sandi.

Officials with the organization say Gouchie looks forward to bringing his vast industry experience with him as the Association’s 2023 Chair. They note he has served on three other occasions on the CARA Board of Directors, as Chair of the Association’s Professional Standards committee, served eight years on the provincial Real Estate Insurance Exchange (REIX) and is currently also serving on the provincial (AREA) professional standards committee

“I believe most realtors are service orientated and both Sandi and I really enjoy helping people find the right fit for them when buying or selling a property. Whether helping the new young couple find their first home or investors adding to their portfolio we really enjoy being part of that journey.”

Chair Gouchie says he looks forward to serving alongside the rest of the 2023 CARA Board of Directors: Past Chair Larrissa Kalyn; Chair-Elect for 2024 Allan Melbourne; Directors Darcy Blair, Chris Forsyth, Jacqui Fletcher, Michelle Pitchell, Alison Richardson, and Jennifer Shields.

“I really enjoy being part of the CARA board of directors and have a vested interest in serving and helping shape our industry. My goal as CARA Chair is to provide the membership with the best tools and service available for the lowest cost to members as possible.”
