A Red Deer man charged with child porn-related offenses has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Robert Crawshaw, 72, was sentenced in Red Deer provincial court on Nov. 29, 2022, on one count of accessing child pornography, while two other counts of distributing/selling/importing, and possessing child pornography, were withdrawn.

Crawshaw was also given a probationary term of 18 months and ordered to pay a $200 surcharge.

ALERT spokesman Mike Tucker confirmed to rdnewsNOW in September 2022 that on Aug. 25, police, including local RCMP, seized a number of electronic devices from an apartment building in the 3700 block of 51 Avenue in Red Deer.

According to police, Robert Crawshaw was arrested on-site.

“The investigation stemmed from a referral by RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre regarding an unknown Alberta-based suspect sharing child pornography via a social media application,” said Tucker in a statement.

“Crawshaw was previously unknown to the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit. The investigation appears to be online in nature. We don’t believe any child is necessarily at-risk or was physically harmed upon. Currently we are not looking for any victims.”

According to Alberta Justice, Crawshaw was charged for offenses that took place between March 2, 2022 and July 3, 2022.
