A new collective agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 417 was accepted and ratified by council on Monday.

CUPE represents more than 900 City of Red Deer employees in a variety of indoor and outdoor positions.

The new three-year agreement is effective January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2023, and includes the following wage provisions:

  • 2021 – no wage increase
  • 2022 – no wage increase
  • 2023 – 1.5 per cent wage increase

The mediated settlement also includes a one-time payment to CUPE employees to adjust for inflation which is scheduled to be paid on the first pay day after January 1, 2023. The amount each person receives is dependent on their employment status:

  • $100 – casual employees
  • $250 – part-time employees
  • $500 – full-time employees

The City confirms the organizational costs associated with the agreement are funded through the operating budget.
