Kidney Foundation launches Cash for Christmas 50/50

Nov 16, 2022 | 2:03 PM

The Kidney Foundation’s Cash For Christmas 50/50 returns this month.

Officials say this life-changing campaign supports kidney & transplant patients, families, and donors throughout Alberta & the Territories. At the same time, one lucky Albertan can win up to ONE MILLION DOLLARS just in time for the holiday season.

Tickets are available at CashForChristmas.ca until November 30 at 11:59 PM MST. The winning number will be announced on December 1 on The Kidney Foundation, Northern Alberta and The Territories’ Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram channels, and at www.CashforChristmas.ca.

Officials say proceeds from the draw help The Kidney Foundation in its mission to provide support to kidney and transplant patients, families, and donors who experience significant physical, financial, and mental health challenges.

“1 in 10 Canadians, including nearly 500,000 Albertans have kidney disease. Despite this, the kidney community is often overlooked. While not all progress to dialysis, those who experience kidney failure must wait for a transplant that may never come, or remain on dialysis for the rest of their lives,” says Flavia Robles, Executive Director of The Kidney Foundation, Northern Alberta & The Territories Branch. “Progressing from kidney disease to kidney failure and requiring dialysis has significant physical, mental, and financial impacts on these patients. The Kidney Foundation is honoured to serve these patients throughout their journey, and by purchasing a 50/50 ticket, you are sending them a clear sign that they aren’t alone.”

A successful Cash for Christmas campaign is expected to allow The Kidney Foundation to continue to support vulnerable Albertans impacted by kidney disease and organ transplantation.

“We provide many vital services for patients in need. These include grocery cards and food baskets so patients can eat healthy kidney-friendly foods; emergency financial support for important medical equipment, such as blood pressure monitors, so they can manage their health; and support for transportation options, so they don’t miss medical appointments or dialysis.” continues Robles. “This is the tip of the iceberg. We do everything we can to support a patient’s journey.”

As the 50/50 launches, Robles has one simple message, “Show kidney and transplant patients that our vibrant community has their backs.”

Each ticket sold will contribute to serving a patient, add officials, and The Kidney Foundation says it needs the enthusiasm of Albertans to step up and grow the pot.

“Over the last few years, we’ve seen so much excitement for 50/50 draws, but Cash for Christmas is the only 50/50 supporting kidney and transplant communities. Please share this campaign with your networks; together, we will help impact lives!”

Officials say the jackpot is updated online in real-time and continues to grow as more people buy tickets. Residents across Alberta over the age of 18 can purchase tickets for a chance to win.
