Town of Ponoka Snow and Ice Control Update

Nov 10, 2022 | 2:19 PM

The Town of Ponoka says they are continuing snow and ice removal operations, as well as sanding and salting along numerous roadways.

On Thursday, November 10, town officials say work operations will be along the following roadways:

  • 53 Ave between 50 St and Highway 2A
  • 57 Ave between Highway 2A and 60 St
  • 46 St between Highway 53 and 50 Ave

They say crews are also continuing to salt, sand and clear snow from sidewalks adjacent to Town-owned properties and on walking trails and park furniture (benches, picnic tables, etc.) in Town parks and throughout the trail system.

Town winter operations crews work in conjunction with the Alberta Ministry of Transportation, which is responsible for snow and ice control on Highways 2A and 53 in Ponoka.

Watch for ‘No Parking Signs’

The Town advises residents to watch for ‘no parking’ signs and move parked cars from roadways on which ‘no parking’ signage is posted.

Temporary parking bans will be implemented where ‘No Parking – Snow Removal’ signs are placed on roadways in advance of snow removal operations.

Motorists are being asked to take an alternate route to avoid snow and ice control equipment where possible. Motorists are also being encouraged to slow down and drive for winter conditions.

Online Service Requests

To report an icy intersection, back alley, or snow-covered sidewalk that may need attention, residents can submit an online request by visiting www.ponoka.ca. Scroll down and click on ‘File an Online Service Request,’ or phone the Town Office at 403-783-4431 where Town staff can help fill out the online form.

Clear Snow and Ice from Sidewalks Bordering Your Property

With the return of winter conditions, Ponoka citizens are also being reminded to help keep the community safe by ensuring sidewalks that border their properties are clear of snow and ice.

“By keeping the sidewalks adjacent to your property clear of snow and ice, you are protecting the safety and well-being of your neighbours and fellow citizens in Ponoka,” the town said in a release.

When shovelling, residents are being asked to avoid depositing snow and ice onto the roadway and properties other than their own. The town says that shovelling snow onto one’s own property is not only good for the grass when it melts in the spring, but is also a requirement under the Town of Ponoka Community Standards Bylaw #384-17 and can result in fines when deemed necessary.
