GAME(S) OF THE WEEK:

100 Years of High School Football in Edmonton!

Normally, we don’t focus on one region or league during the first weekend in November as it is Championship Weekend for leagues all over the Province. But 2022 is a special year for the Edmonton area as it marks its 100th Anniversary for high school football. In 1922, the first ever league was operated in Edmonton featuring teams from the “original six” schools which were Eastwood (precursor to Eastglen), Westglen (precursor to Ross Sheppard), St. Mary’s, St. Joseph’s, Strathcona, and Victoria. Only three of those schools still have teams but since that time the number has now grown to 24 schools in the Edmonton area with high school teams.

And, it will be celebrated next week with the conclusion at the Metro Edmonton High School Football Championships on Saturday, November 5, at Commonwealth Stadium.
