Wolf Creek Golf Resort goes into receivership

Oct 28, 2022 | 12:48 PM

One of central Alberta’s most popular golf courses has gone into receivership.

Ryan Vold, president of Wolf Creek Golf Resort — which has a history going back to the 1980s — emailed a letter to members on Oct. 18 stating as much.

The news comes just a couple months after the resort’s two courses each made ScoreGolf’s Top 100 list.

In the letter, Vold writes that he has been trying to find an investor or buyer for some time, and on several occasions felt he had something put together. However, each time it fell through.

“Our mortgage company has lost faith in me finding a buyer so they now are taking it into their hands,” he penned. “As of the end of the golf season, we have been given a court order and have been forced into receivership. This will be for the golf course only and does not include the Villages.”

‘Villages’ refers to real estate surrounding the resort.

Vold goes on to say that MNP is taking over the sale and will go to tender this fall with the hope that new owners could resume business as usual come springtime.

Vold says he’s been asked to stay on and help with the sale and transition so that it is a smooth one.

“In regards to all golf memberships for 2023, our early bird payment program is on hold until we have a clearer picture on where we will be going,” he adds. “All RV park monthly charges will cease for those in the RV program, your trailer, your site will be secure, and we will continue to keep security on over the winter, if you want to pull your trailer out that is your call.”

rdnewsNOW reached out to Vold for further comment, but he declined. We also contacted MNP Vice President Karen Aylward, who says, “The assets will be offered for sale by the court-appointed receiver within the coming weeks through a public sales process and details on how to structure an offer will be made available in the marketing materials.”

The court order came from Court of King’s Bench on Oct. 13, she adds.

“Prospective purchasers and interested parties can refer to MNP Ltd.’s website (www.mnpdebt.ca) for information related to the sales process and other matters which will be posted as it becomes available,” says Aylward.

Aylward could not comment on the reason Vold had the resort up for sale, nor speak to how long it had been on the market.
