Third Annual Big Future Innovation Grant offered for small businesses

Oct 26, 2022 | 1:14 PM

Alberta Central, the central banking facility, service bureau and trade association for Alberta’s credit unions, has announced the launch of the third Big Future Innovation Grant, offered in partnership with the Credit Unions of Alberta.

Officials say the grant provides an opportunity for two Alberta-based small business owners to receive $25,000 in funding to help grow their business and foster innovation.

Applications are open from October 25 to November 14, 2022 (or until the first 100 applications are received). Officials say applicants must demonstrate how their business is innovative and how the funds will further aid in their growth and innovation to be considered for one of two $25,000 grants.

“Credit unions care about supporting small businesses in Alberta, and this grant is just one of the many ways that Alberta Central and our credit union partners help support entrepreneurs,” said Ben Chappell, President and CEO of Alberta Central, in a press release. “The Big Future Innovation Grant is all about celebrating two of the many innovative small businesses found across Alberta, the same way that credit unions are there for small business owners with products, services and advice.”

Officials say the applications received will be reviewed by a panel of leaders from Alberta Central and the Alberta credit union system.

Five applicants will be shortlisted and asked to participate in a 20-minute virtual ‘pitch’ presentation to the judging panel, which includes one of the winners from 2021. The judges will then select the final two recipients who will each be awarded a $25,000 grant, to be deposited into a business account with their local credit union.
