First-Degree Murder Charge

Preliminary hearing scheduled for man charged in Sundre homicide

Oct 25, 2022 | 3:24 PM

A Sundre man charged in a local homicide this summer may find out next year if his case has enough evidence to go to trial.

Solaimane Elbettah, 27, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Calgary provincial court from Mar. 27-30, 2023.

Elbettah was charged with first-degree murder after a man was found dead at a McDonald’s restaurant in central Alberta early on July 4, 2022.

RCMP say 19-year-old Josh Burns was found shortly after midnight when officers responded to reports of a homicide at the McDonald’s in Sundre.

RCMP said at the time they believed it was an isolated incident and did not disclose if any weapons were used. Mounties also didn’t say if the suspect was known to police.

Both men were residents of Sundre.
