Alberta NDP pass several resolutions regarding affordability and health care at annual convention
The Alberta NDP held their 2022 Convention over the weekend, passing resolutions they say focus on making life more affordable for Albertans and fixing the health care crisis in preparation for the next provincial election.
Over the three days of debate, party officials say resolutions passed included Fixing the EMS Crisis, which is said to focus on addressing the number of red alerts and ambulance shortages across the province by offering paramedics with casual positions, full-time positions, developing a retention and recruitment plan for EMS workers, and ensuring paramedics are able to get off shift on time to reduce worker burn out.
Alberta NDP delegates also passed Tackling the High Prices of Groceries, where the NDP says it calls on the UCP government to work directly with the opposition to create an all-party committee on food affordability and routine government reporting on grocery prices.
In addition, the Alberta NDP Caucus aims to revisit consultation on the UCP curriculum within 100 days of forming government, while the resolution Revisions and Updates of Education Curricula was also passed. According to party officials, this resolution ensures evaluation and revision of the K-12 curricula will occur within every 10 years to ensure the most up to date content and teaching methods are being used.
