Innisfail RCMP say 100 gravestones knocked over

Oct 13, 2022 | 4:07 PM

Innisfail RCMP are asking for someone to come forward with information about vandalism at a local cemetery.

On Oct. 13, RCMP received a complaint that about 100 gravestones had been knocked over at the Innisfail Community Cemetery.

It’s believed the vandalism took place the evening previous, on Oct. 12.

Officials with the Town of Innisfail released this statement in response:

“On the morning of Thursday, October 13, 2022, Town of Innisfail staff became aware of multiple acts of vandalism at the town’s municipally-run cemetery. Town staff are still gathering information at this point. Administration is working to complete a report with the intention of providing a briefing to council at the Monday, October 17 Agenda & Priorities Meeting.

“There will most likely be a significant cost associated with this act of vandalism and we reiterate that the destruction of property is a burden on the entire community. The Innisfail RCMP are actively involved, so the Town has no further information regarding the investigation at this time.”

If you have information in regards to this investigation or those responsible, contact the Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or your local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
