Red Deer & District Community Foundation opens applications for Women & Girls Grant

The Red Deer & District Community Foundation (RDDCF) has announced that grant applications are now open for their Women and Girls Grant.

The grant opportunity is opening to coincide with International Day of the Girl on October 11 which, the foundation says, highlights the importance of girls’ rights and promotes the empowerment of girls in Canada and globally.

“This grant is a way for the Community Foundation to demonstrate our commitment to addressing barriers and challenges faced by women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals living in central Alberta,” said Erin Peden, Executive Director of the RDDCF. “As an organization, we have been looking at our own policies with respect to gender, diversity, and inclusion, and it is in this spirit that we will be looking for projects and agencies to support.”

Officials confirm the Women and Girls Grant will award $5,000 annually to support organizations part of the women’s movement, whose core activities, leadership, mission, and vision are committed to advancing gender equality. The mission of the grant, according to RDDCF, is to fund projects that:

  • provide opportunities to address basic needs or develop economic self-sufficiency for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals
  • strengthen and provide health and safety programs for women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals
  • promote the education of women, girls and gender-diverse individuals
  • invest in systems and sustainable change efforts in diversity, equity and inclusion.

“We are also hoping to see this fund grow, so that more money can be returned to the community to support some of the incredible agencies that are working hard to address gender equity,” said Peden. “We encourage people to celebrate International Day of the Girl by donating to the Women and Girls Fund so that local projects supporting women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals will continue to receive community support.”

Grant applications will close on January 30, 2023. For more information on criteria and eligibility, contact Danielle Stewart at 403-341-6911 or daniellestewart@rddcf.ca.
