Investigation continues into serious injury during arrest by Maskwacis RCMP
On Sept. 13, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate a serious injury sustained by an individual while being arrested by the Maskwacis RCMP on Sept. 10.
At approximately 9 p.m. on Sept. 10, the Maskwacis RCMP received a complaint about a man at a house on the Samson Cree Nation. Police say this man was wanted on several warrants, including for matters involving firearms.
According to ALERT, officers went to the house and learned that the man had recently departed on foot into the nearby rural area. Officers established containment of the area and contacted the emergency response team, police dog services and air services for support.
ALERT says an officer began to track the man with the assistance of a police dog, which located him within 100 to 150 metres of the house. At approximately 10 p.m., the dog bit the man on the right inner thigh. Police say the man was seriously injured and was transported to a hospital shortly after.
