Multicultural Arts event happening in Red Deer for Alberta Culture Days

Sep 16, 2022 | 4:13 PM

A multicultural arts event, hosted by Care for Newcomers (formerly CARE) is being held Sept. 23 and 24 at Red Deer’s Festival Hall.

The event, which is part of Alberta Culture Days. runs 5-9 on day one, and 10-6 on day two.

Day one will feature a variety of food trucks, teaching of multicultural dances, individual musicians, an art market, and from 7-9, a free family dance.

Day two will have ethnic food vendors, performances from local dance studios and cultural groups, and the art market will continue with musicians and singers throughout the day.

Care for Newcomers Public Awareness Coordinator, Jan Underwood, says a raised awareness about the diversity which exists in Red Deer is the goal.

“We want people to gain an appreciation also for some of the arts that people are involved in,” she says. “Especially from a multicultural perspective, because sometimes we think of Alberta Culture Days and tend to forget the multicultural aspect.”

Underwood says one musician will be on hand playing the lute, while a man from Afghanistan will be showcasing his weaving skills, among others.

“It’s all about a broader appreciation for the arts.”

Country Pride Dance Club is a partner with the event.
