Rebels coach eager, players “chomping at the bit” as training camp looms
If you ask Red Deer Rebels head coach Steve Konowalchuk, the 2022/23 Western Hockey League (WHL) season has all the makings of being a bright one for his club.
The fourth year WHL bench boss spoke to media on Wednesday as players are set to arrive this week for training camp.
Konowalchuk wholeheartedly believes the team can succeed despite losing at least one, and perhaps both, of the WHL’s top two leading point-getters from last season; those being Arshdeep Bains and Ben King.
Bains, who aged out and signed with the Vancouver Canucks, recorded 43 goals and 112 points last season, while King, who is 20 and had 52 goals with 105 total points, was drafted this summer by the Anaheim Ducks. King will report to Rebels camp, but could find himself playing pro come October.
